Carbon Monoxide

Thought I would try to introduce the topic of carbon monoxide to the combustion area of this forum.

Carbon Monoxide poison is always of concern when working with or using any combustion heating system. I encourage students and instructors to learn about carbon monoxide production, causes, safety concerns, health effects, how to recognize potential CO hazards, how to test for CO and what measures to take when it is detected.

There is no time like the present to educate yourself about CO and be prepared for the upcoming heating season. I know it is late in the month of July as I post this. However, it will not be long before we forget this current heat wave and start up gas and oil furnaces and boilers.

i have been told if the ambient temperature is below 70f . you can use suction pressure psig.equals the ambient plus or minis 5f . so if ambient is 55f and suction pressure is 55f the refrigerant level is OK.

been doing some reading on compressor breakdowns ,cause and effect,so on.
The most common problem seems to point to air flow,improper charging methods,and lack of prev maintenance.
I have some pics of a couple 10 ton hermetics I cut open last week that I will post soon.make you want to pull your hair out,especially knowing the tax payers are footing the bill for it. we are very lucky to have the internet and this forum ,best tool in my shop

Chiller for training

We just had a donation of an 80 ton Carrier "flotronics" chiller for use in our program. It was just delivered, so no pics yet. The guys are really excited about actually putting wrenches on one.
